Title: Blockchain in Transportation: More Intelligent, Decentralized, Secure, and Privacy-Preserving Systems
Blockchain is a rapidly-developed disruptive technology which can be simply defined as a decentralized secure and trustable way for recording, storing, and sharing of information belonging to transactions between multiple parties. Blockchain has the full potential of building efficient parallel systems and thusly revolutionizing the increasingly centralized intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Although several Blockchain based systems have been proposed for ITS, these systems have not been analyzed in a way that guarantees real and successful implementation in transportation. This talk reviews the most recent Blockchain application in ITS, analyzes them, and addresses the main challenges associated with their deployment in ITS. The talk also identifies the perspectives which lead to successful deployment of Blockchain in ITS and suggests future research and practices in ITS which include Blockchain in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks, Society-Centered ITS and Internet of Vehicles.
Dr. Yousef is currently an associate professor at the Computer Systems Engineering department in Palestine Technical University Kadoorie. His research focuses on Blockchain, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs). He published several papers about traffic prediction, ITS crowdsourcing and VANETs in highly distinguished journals and conferences. He received the Best Paper Award from international conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems Telecommunications in 2012. He serves as Technical Program Committee member for the International conference on connected vehicles and expo, international conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems Telecommunications, international conference on signal processing, international conference on electric vehicle and vehicle engineering, and Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium. He is a reviewer of highly distinguished journals: IEEE transaction on intelligent transportation systems, IEEE transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE communication magazine, IEEE network magazine and others. He received the PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering from National Chiao Tung University-Taiwan in Jan/2014, the Master degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Chiao Tung University-Taiwan in 2007, and the Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from An-Najah National University-Palestine in 2002.
